Quilt book and magazine giveaway

Hello Dear Reader,

As you all know, I’ve read Marie Kondo’s book and I’m really paring down and sorting everything in the house from top to bottom. I thought I’d de-cluttered. Her book suggests, you look at every item that you own, her words ask if it gives you joy? I have items that give me joy but I will never use. With that in mind, I’ve had another clear out, been to the charity shop again and now I’m enlisting your help in the clear out.

I’m giving away all of these books and magazines and I’m only keeping the ones I use all the time. I also find a lot of patterns, ideas and designs online. I ‘borrow’ magazines for free from the library and read them on my ipad. I’ve really reduced what I own and it sound all very hippy and tree hugging but it’s really freeing up my mind too.

My floral boxes now house large pieces fabric according to category. It’s all been folded and ziplock bagged to keep it dust free. I have housed all of my ‘teacher’s equipment’ in a tool box by my computer and I’ve given myself a whole heap of space.

GIVEAWAY T&C’s.

You can have these books but please read the conditions really carefully xxxxx

You will have to come and get them and I won’t parcel them up, send them via courier or drop them round your house. Sorry lovvies but I don’t need the stress of worrying about that.

You need to enter the rafflecopter, which requires your email and I will email you when you’ve won. You’ll then have to let me know when you will collect them and another apology coming up here, you’ll have to come at the weekend. You’re welcome to a cup of tea and slice of cake when you do xxxxx I’d like them gone by the 22nd of March please.

The closing date is the Sunday 8th of March. It will be nice to meet who ever wins xxx

Beautiful Giveaway

Hello Dear Reader,

From time to time, PR companies or companies themselves contact me and ask if I would be interested in reviewing or advertising a product or company. I will say yes if I think there are bargains to be had or it will save you money. I was contacted by a company from the S.E of England called Choice discount. I took a look at their website and they are certainly very good value for the products that I had time to look at. I particularly liked their homeware section and their range of cook ware is really affordable and the brands they sell are of good quality.

Currently, they are having a summer 50% off sale which means, if you are local or wanted to use their website then you could go and buy Christmas gifts at really reduced prices. Also, if you are off to a family wedding and wanted to buy the couple a wedding present, their homeware section is really good value. If you live in the South East, then you’ll probably have heard of them. If not, then I think it would be worth taking a look.

I’m giving away the toiletries and scarf they sent me. They are lovely and in gratitude to you for reading, here’s a chance for you to stock up for Christmas or just keep them as a treat for yourself.

Here are the terms and conditions. Please make sure you have read them.

The prize is a scarf, shower gel and body butter.

The draw is open from midnight tonight until midnight this Thursday night.

1. Enter the rafflecopter.
2. Be or become a follower.
3. Check if you have won this Friday morning and email me, see contact above, by 10 am GMT this Friday 1st August. If you don’t then it will be redrawn.
4. Leave a comment telling us all about the bargain stores in your area that some of us may not know about. No need to tell us about the national stores.
5. UK giveaway only.
6. Overseas entries if you would like this to be sent to a friend in the UK.

As always, I really appreciate you reading. It might be the middle of summer but I know that thrifty families will be getting ready for Christmas and this giveaway might be a lovely gift for someone you know.

Until tomorrow,

Love Froogs xxxxx

THE WINNER IS + Staycation day 2- Cotehele Mill

Hello Dear Reader,

Sun bathing legs in the sun at 5pm last night.

This morning, we visited a National Trust property called Cotehele Mill.

We parked on the quay and took a short walk to the mill.

Of course, as it’s a mill, there’s water every where.

Here’s the mill, owned and run by the National Trust.

Milling the flour.

Getting the water to the wheel.

The delivery door for the grain.

Beautiful walks on the way home.

Look it up on the National Trust website and try and visit if you are in the area.

I love the old bridges up and down the small river.

Quick lunch and then sit down to write that the winner is DEBS MC ANDREW

Please email me your address by 6pm tomorrow.

Thanks very much for entering and it was great fun getting the giveaway together.

Until tomorrow,

vintage giveaway

a Rafflecopter giveaway//widget.rafflecopter.com/load.js

Hello Dear Reader,

As promised, I’ve dug around and found some more goodies to add to the giveaway.

I found some vintage 70’s pillowcase fabric and cut it into 5″ and 4″ squares.

I cut one side, turn it round and then use the ruler to make sure I have the exact 5″.

I also deconstructed some 80’s floral pillow cases which will very nearly give you enough fabric to back a lap quilt or a throw. The white flowers are lovely against the cream and contrast well with the green.

I’ve also added some shirt and dress squares. This is what I usually do when I quilt, I use clothes that I’ve bought in charity shops. Oh, and I added a Companion angle. I have three of these…..gifts along the way and I have this one spare to add to the bundle.

Close ups of the lovely vintage fabrics. I love the mix of old and new fabrics.

Here’s the whole bundle. It’s only Wednesday and there will be more!!!!

Here’s how it can all be yours.

Please use the Rafflecopter thingy to enter. You can do this after midnight tonight.

The prize is a large box of fabric already cut into strips, squares oblongs and other shapes. It is not for the quilt below; that is an example of what you could make with the fabric and shows the quilt I have finished today.

T&Cs – sorry about this but it’s all in the name of fairness.

1. You will need to be a follower or become one to enter.
2. You will also need to leave a comment and enter your name in the Rafflecopter.
3. When I click on your name, your blog list should show that you follow Frugal Queen. You do not have to have a blog yourself, it will just show that you follow this blog.
4. The draw will take place at 6pm GMT Sunday 20th July.
5. You will need to email me with your name and address within 24 hours or I will give this away to a randomly selected commenter. If you are the winner and I haven’t heard from you by 6pm Monday 21st July, then the giveaway goes to someone else.
6. UK only due to postage. Sorry xxxx
7. Please make sure you have read all the blog today to understand the prize.

This is great fun and I’m looking forward to adding more tomorrow! Thanks to everyone who has entered so far.

Love Froogs xxxxx

Giveaway and competition

Hello Dear Reader,

I promised that I would dig around and find more to add to the giveaway. The prize is a large box of pre cut fabric in squares and various shapes. There are also lots of thread. Here’s what I’ve added today.

A Christmas wall hanging, I’ve already spray basted it and it’s backed. You just have to quilt it and edge it. Add something to hang it with and it’s good to go.

Here’s a close up.

I’ve also added some quilt wadding – probably enough for a lap quilt or a cot quilt. It’s enough to practise with or at the very least have some fun with.

I’ve also added some random pre-cut strips.

Please make sure you read the T&Cs and make sure you enter in the Rafflecopter.

You could make a quilt like this.

Today, I have added a whole box of reels of thread. These are best suited to hand quilting and I’m sure they are fine for machine quilting but I personally can’t get the tension right. So, I’ve added these to the giveaway. I’m also hunting out more fabric to add to the giveaway.

You will have plenty of fabric to make a full sized quilt.

Some fabric is recycled and some is cut from fat quarters. There’s a variety of colours.

There is a variety of sizes too and you will be able to just go wild and make what ever you like.

I will throw in a few goodies too…..they will be a surprise when you open them.

The give away starts at midnight and I will be linking back to this page all week.

Good luck and happy quilting xxxx

£1000 giveaway competition

Hello Dear Reader,

Added later – a reader contacted me to tell me that they had won this competition!!!! A Frugal Queen reader got it! Woo – Hoo!!!!!

Keep reading and I will tell you how to enter a competition where you could win £1000 to renovate your home. So far, we’ve double glazed which was a huge expense but the house will be warmer, quieter and cheaper to run. We’ve simplified our garden and we now have a lawn to laze on in the summer evenings. My summer break will feature a lot of house renovation. The fun part is the tiny budget! It can be done.

A small budget mean we are masters of thrift and find creative and inventive ways to paint, decorate and of course do most of the work our selves. This means recovering chairs, altering curtains, making some curtains, making Roman blinds, stripping wall paper and repainting rooms. We have some heavy work to do in preparation but nothing that we can’t help out with before we have to pay some one, such as a plasterer.

Now here’s your chance.

Swinton are looking to help people and the communities they live in by offering cash prizes of up to £5,000 to complete projects that matter to them this summer. From the week commencing Monday June 30th, Swinton will run four exciting competitions over a five-week period: the home project (week one), the garden project (week two), the DIY neighbour project (week three) and the community project (week four).

Here’s the top line detail of this week’s competition:
  • Nominate home project you’d like to see completed in your home for the chance to win £1,000
  • All entries will automatically be entered in to our prize draw to win £100
  • Winners will be chosen at the end of this week and contacted via email
So Dear Reader, please submit your entry here by filling out the competition form to nominate a home project you’d like to see completed this summer. Please also see T&Cs.

For us frugal and thrifty folk, £1000 would probably complete the renovations from top to bottom! I would love one of you to win! Wouldn’t that be amazing. Even better if you could take a before and after photo and post it here!

We totally love our new life here at Thrift cottage, it’s our tiny home but it’s so special to us and of course, we will be sharing more of our thrifty renovations as the year goes by.

Over to you Dear Reader, did you enter and what would you renovate if you won?

Until tomorrow,

Love Froogs
