Humble food 

Hello Dear Reader,

I’ve found my theme this week; homemade humble food with a really low price tag. Lunch today was roasted veggies, homemade hummus and some lettuce. 

I make my hummus with a tin of chickpeas that I drain and rinse with tap water. I add them to a bowl with 80ml of water, 3 tbsp of lemon juice, teaspoon of chili powder, 2 tsp of cumin, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and blend the lot. You can add more water if you choose.

DB had his with a bigger portion and some frittata made in the week for lunches. Well under my pound budget, really quick and easy to make. My salad dressing is a light salad cream with added water to make it a thinner sauce. If you’re following Slimming World, then it’s 2 syns for the dressing and the rest if free.

Hello Froogs, we are loving living in Liskeard and have been here for 2 months now , feel right at home! have just finished making cheap veggie meals for the freezer, mainly using let over veggies and TVP mince which is cheap and makes a good lasagne, cottage pie and chilli. Started slimming world ( again ) this week, without attending classes,need to lose LOADS. We have not found the bathroom scales since moving so I weighed in Boots and will do so every 4 weeks. That machine is so rude, can’t believe what it told me!!! Love that food, my cup of tea!


  2. There is nothing wrong with humble food. It is mostly easier to fix and is great as leftovers. As a matter of fact, humble food should be the goal for all of us. Don’t you put tahini in your hummus?


  3. I like caramelised onion hummus and this is easy enough to make with a small cheap onion! Good cheap, healthy stuff which you can add to just about any veg


  4. Thank you for that I was looking for a hummus recipe and they all state to use tahini which as you say is too expensive. I have bought it before but it gets wasted and I hate waste so I will try it your way. x
